One of our core values at
Hydro Construction is to “develop
and execute ways of giving back to the community.” We
appreciate the opportunity to positively impact a community
through the services we provide, however,
we also continually
strive to extend that involvement beyond our projects.
The following are examples of how Hydro Construction is
involved in the communities we work with.
CSU Internships & Sponsorships
Hydro Construction has
a long-standing relationship with the Construction Management
Department at Colorado State
University. Many of our employees are graduates of the
program and we continue to offer our support through work
experience opportunities, internships and sponsorships.
Hydro Construction sees the internship program as a win-win
scenario for both parties. Our company benefits by staying
connected to the fresh perspective and current trends of
the construction industry and we value input from our interns.
An internship with Hydro Construction offers students the
opportunity to apply classroom lessons in a real-world
construction environment, with challenging, unique experiences.
Paid internships are available to students majoring in
Construction Management or Engineering programs. As an
intern, you may work in the office or on-site at one of
our construction projects. Typically, internships last
from three to six months and occasionally part-time or
full-time status is also available after the internship
period is complete.
Hydro offers support to the CSU Construction Management
Department through team sponsorships for various regional
and national student competitions. These competitions allow
students to be exposed to actual construction problem solving
exercises and are a great supplement to their classroom
experience.
Water Wagon
Our goal in creating the Water Wagon was to give
back to the community, while drawing on our own expertise
in
partnering and water conservation. The idea was formulated
during the 2002 drought and was based on the idea that
by teaching children the importance of conservation, they
will be a reminder to their parents. In essence, by educating
children we would not only be educating future generations,
but also impacting today’s water users.
The Water Wagon involved purchasing a 32-foot long trailer
to create a mobile set of exhibits that immerse children
in hands-on water conservation education. Handicap-accessible,
the trailer features fun, interactive displays that show
children how they can help reduce household water consumption.
A winding river painted on the floor of the Water Wagon
guides students through each station, including a shower
display that demonstrates how shortening shower time can
save water and a reservoir that drains according to choices
made about outdoor water use. Touch screens with animated
video clips provide other simple tips and water trivia,
and a “water audit” station allows students
to find out how much water their households use.
Hydro Construction worked with a number of local organizations
that contributed ideas, time or funds to make the Water
Wagon a reality, including the Poudre School District,
City of Fort Collins, Town of Windsor, Consolidated Mutual
Water District, Hall-Irwin Corporation, New Belgium Brewery,
InfiNet Consulting, CDM Electric, Mike Wilkinson Woodworking
and the WaterSHED program.
This community involvement project was possible due to
Hydro Construction’s unique history of partnering
with numerous Northern and Eastern Colorado communities
in the construction of their water and wastewater facilities.
We found that each community was reaching out to educate
their local customers to promote responsible water management
and conservation policies. One of our goals in creating
the Water Wagon was to harness these past relationships
and combine their educational outreach efforts into a mobile
exhibit.
Hydro Construction is pleased to announce that the Water
Wagon has been permanently donated to the Town of Windsor,
Colorado in order to support their continued education
of water conservation.
